Summer Learning Institute 2026
Friday June 19, 2026 10:20am - 11:30am PDT
Discipline challenges can create turbulence in classrooms, especially for students with disabilities. This session explores how an MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) framework provides a structured, inclusive approach to navigating behavioral challenges while minimizing exclusionary discipline, and why additional adults or paraprofessionals aren’t always the solution. Participants will explore the governance and policy challenges of balancing inclusive education with student and staff safety, especially in the early elementary grades. Participants will also examine legal requirements favoring inclusion and learn how to strategically plan to meet these obligations through early intervention, class wide supports, targeted individual strategies, staff resource planning, and resource distribution.
